When you're in the jungle, face to face with a black jaguar, your perception of your toughness gets shattered. On a trip to Paragua a few years ago, one of our crew was taking his afternoon beer piss by the campsite when out of nowhere a panther's eyes appear between the foliage. His shriek startled even the hardest of us nomads. As the guide ran over to see what was going on, the panther retreated into the lush jungle filled with bright blue and purple flowers. We never saw the panther after that, but his memory lives on.
