Huacachina, Peru
An oasis in the dunes
Huacachina is a real desert oasis in Peru's Ica region. A ring of palm trees and green water sitting in a bowl of some of the tallest sand dunes on the continent. Five hundred people live there. Everyone else drives past it on the way to somewhere else.
We pulled its palms, its sunflowers, and the diamond geometry of Peruvian textiles into two dense embroidery panels running down the placket. Hours of stitching per shirt, and it shows from across the room.
