La República Bananera Neptune print by Baja Llama
Central America · early 1900s

The United Fruit Company owned the land, the railroads — and the governments they fed.

The arrangement

Somebody always got the beach chair.

The arrangement

Somebody always swung the pick.

The pitch

Liberty, brought to you by fruit. A conquest, drawn as a cartoon.

The map

Guatemala. Honduras. Cuba. Priced like produce.

That contrast is the point

The bright colors
were the alibi.

So we drew it back

Every icon,
a wink.

Paradise, told honestly — and worn loud.
Baja Llama · A true story you can wear

Looks like paradise, doesn't it?
The whole idea

We didn't clean up the story.
We made it wearable.

Every piece in La República Bananera is drawn from the real iconography of the banana republics — the ads, the flags, the fruit-company saints — redrawn by hand as a wink you can wear. Bright colors that once sold a fantasy, turned back on themselves. Look twice. That's the whole point.
