FEATURE:

You’ve traveled to some amazing places and seem to have a real connection with the outdoors. How has this adventurous spirit influenced your style, and do you have a favorite Baja Llama piece that really captures that energy?

I love the outdoors. I love this earth. There are so many unique and amazing places and I’ve been blessed to experience many of them, although these are just a fraction of the places I still haven’t been to.  I’m also a big believer in energy - energy of the land, energy of the people - and much of this is attributed to Schumann resonance. And it’s a powerful thing of peace and congruence when you’re in its presence and it’s coursing through you. My favorite Baja Llama piece that captures the land and the feeling is the hand painted desert shirt! I wore it at one of my shows, actually, I’ve worn it that many of my shows, but especially at a big show that I played, and I got countless compliments and inquiries as to what I was wearing!

You’re both an actor and a country singer-songwriter. How do you balance these two passions, and what’s your creative process like when switching between acting and music?

It’s definitely not easy to find the balance, lol but when you love what you do, it doesn’t ever feel like work, does it? Which is really the best way to live life. That said, truthfully, there is minimal balance involved, since it’s a lot of hard work, creating and being creative, praying, hoping, trusting, & keeping the faith - while also not getting much sleep and consistently hearing a lot of NO’s. But at a certain point, with all the inherent rejection, it resets your “rejection baseline” so it just becomes par for the course, and you just get better, hopefully, at hitting birdie

Your Instagram @hogcity gives off a relaxed, down-to-earth vibe, but you’re also constantly working on new projects. What’s something exciting you’re working on right now that your fans should know about?

Thank you - as you can imagine everyone loves to weigh in. On pretty much everything, but seemingly most of the time they love to weigh in on my Instagram haha - Which I guess is no surprise, since it really is a reflection and extension of me. And I’ve got a ton of interests, I love music and making movies, but I’m also big into health and fitness, and being outdoors, finding a beach as often as I can, at the end of the day it’s really about sharing the things, places, and photos that mean something to me with my fans, or whoever follows my journey, because it really does become a community.

I’ve got a new movie out - KILLER NURSES - on Tubi - another film of mine just made its world premiere at the Newport Beach film festival, i’ve got an episode of CBS’s TRACKER that just recently aired, a 1970s film with Crispin Glover, a western that will hopefully be hitting theaters in February for Valentine’s Day, and a couple other episodes of television. & I’ve got a new single - GETTIN’ PRETTY GOOD AT - which just came out November 8

You’ve taken some big risks throughout your career, like starring in the Western A Soldier’s Revenge and diving into country music. What drives you to take on these bold challenges, and how do they pay off creatively?

I like to think that the courage and the boldness in my choices in my career and in my life do pay off, and I suppose that particular film was a good example of that, since it’s the only movie I’ve won an award for lol. But at the end of the day, I want to be excited and sometimes even scared about what I’m about to delve into, and the eight page scene that was pretty much one long monologue in that particular film, terrified the hell out of me, but somehow by the grace of God, and with the support of everyone on set, I was able to pull it off, and in retrospect, I’m quite proud of the work. And with country music, there’s really a beautiful and harmonious intersection of the same overarching themes: themes of Hope, redemption, having a definitive point of view, but also of humility or of being humbled, and shedding light on the human condition, and not shying away from our flaws, but finding the the salve in addressing them.

We saw you posted about custom-made pieces like hats on your Instagram. Do you have any other personalized or standout fashion pieces that hold special meaning to you?

Funny, you should ask, and I certainly do. One of which is an old collared shirt that I found out at a thrift store many years ago, and I just was drawn to it, even though the sleeves were way too short. So I only ever wore it with the sleeves rolled up, and after years and years of wear, the sleeves started to come apart and so I just cut them off, and it’s still one of my favorite shirts, but I think it also has to do with, and call me crazy here, the ENERGY in that shirt. Especially because I don’t know who owned it before I did, but sometimes even in animate objects, pieces of clothing, musical instruments, have an energetic through line that is palpable and harnessable. That’s one of the reasons I love Baja Llama, not only are the prints and designs so unique and fresh, the energy of your threads is unparalleled and stellar. You can feel it.

You’ve written music while filming in amazing locations, like during your time in Utah. Can you tell us about one of your favorite songs you’ve written while on set and how the location inspired you?

To be honest, there’s so many, I think at this point I’ve released 103 songs, and I probably have 95 or so recorded that no one has ever heard. I’ve also been blessed and grateful to have many of my songs find their way into some of my projects Whether it be film or TV, but the song I wrote for my Sony Affirm movie 5000 BLANKETS called “Dark Nights” is definitely a special one, which came straight out of the ether I believe, and was delivered to me. Another one, THINGS I’VE LEARNED, I wrote while in Georgia filming my country music movie the NEON HIGHWAY, and I had a vision of a small cottage home, & upon returning to Nashville weeks later, I found that same home (that I had only seen in my mind prior), on Redfin, and so I bought it.

Many fans know you from your acting roles, but your country music career has also been taking off. What’s the most rewarding part of being a multi-dimensional artist, and how do you see your music evolving in the next few years?

I spend every day, writing music, auditioning, praying, and manifesting. So when it all starts to come together, it feels all that much more special and actually has meaning. I have some big dreams, certainly, many of which I don’t & won’t even talk about, but I do have some big plans, and I’m not scared of a challenge, and I’m not afraid to reach for the stars - Because at the end of the day, we’re only here for a short time, so why the hell not.

What’s one fun or unexpected fact about you that your fans might be surprised to learn? (Feel free to spill some behind-the-scenes Baja Llama stories if any come to mind!)

I’m telling you, pretty much anytime I wear Baja Llama, I get approached and people ask what I’m wearing. And what’s cool about that, is not just that I’m able to pass on and share with them a brand that I truly love, but I also get to meet people, simply because of what I’m wearing. Separately, I love sourdough bread, I love wine, I love a good Pilsner, I love steak. In fact, I always say there’s three things that I love: music, wine, and winning.

Between your travels, acting, and music, you’ve probably encountered some memorable moments. Can you share a story from your adventures that best captures your “say yes” and adventurous mentality?

Unless something just really doesn’t sit right in my gut and feels off, if I’m interested, I will say yes. I’m a big believer in taking action, and as much as I’m prone to procrastination, the less I can procrastinate and delay in making a decision in real-time and on the spot, typically the better the outcome. That very thing happened when a radio station had asked me to play a big show, this was years ago, and I didn’t at all feel ready to perform to that big of a crowd, but I said yes, without thinking twice, and I’m sure glad I did.

You’re always up to something exciting, whether it's releasing new music or acting in films. What’s next for you to close out 2024 that fans should keep an eye on?

It certainly seems like there’s never a dull moment, and I tend to think that I thrive under pressure and when my schedule is slammed. But I’m currently down in Florida spending time with my family; my girlfriend and I head to Belize next for my birthday; & then we are off to Napa to drink some wine and eat some turkey. Enjoying some much-overdue downtime
